This Newborn Lifestyle Session was supposed to take place a month before it actually did, but due to many various health circumstances we got pushed back numerous times. Its always frustrating for a family to have to reschedule newborn photos, as babies change so quickly and they are very excited about capturing those early days. But things always work out in the end, and this newborn session ended up being extra special because we got to photograph outdoors- something that rarely happens in Vermont for newborn photography. The great thing about Newborn Lifestyle Photography is that it can happen anytime. Posed newborn photography needs to happen within about the first 7-10 days of life, as babies are sleepy, squishy, and mold-able at that age. But when they are over a month old, they become more aware and alert, might not like to be swaddled, and are harder to get to sleep with the distractions of a photographer.
I like to photograph babies when the family is ready. So many families have special circumstances that prevent photography within the first week, or even month of life. Most families are just plain exhausted and adding a photo session into the schedule just isn't in the cards. By photographing with a lifestyle or documentary technique, you can document daily life in your family in an artistic way that captures your authentic family.
Here's some of my favorite shots that captured this family's authentic self:
