When choosing to have an outdoor, studio, or in-home maternity session, there are a few things to consider:
1. The Weather
Weather plays a huge role in deciding where your maternity session will take place. Here in Vermont, winter is long, and if you aren't feeling up to layering up to braving the snow, and indoor session it is. Some photographers have studios, and some come to your location. By looking through a photographer's portfolio, you can choose someone whose look you love and that will determine whether you are in-studio, or in-home.
2. What represents you and your family best?
There is a movement towards more authentic portraiture. What does that mean? It means that a photographer, like myself, who photographs in this way captures genuine moments of your family. Genuine moments of your love, laughter, and connection. When I think of genuine moments, I think of outdoor sessions if you love to be in nature, or in-home sessions, as you are most relaxed and comfortable in your home. Your home is where it all happens- the good, the bad, all of it. You are free to be yourselves.
3. In-home sessions are comfortable and fun for your children!
If you already have children, outdoor or in-home sessions are the way to go. Your home was made for them, so you don't have to worry about them tripping over studio lights or anything being unsafe for them. They are so comfortable at home, and they have fun showing off their room and the new baby's room too!
