MODERN SCHOOL PORTRAITS THAT FAMILIES LOVE
Natural, timeless portraits for preschools, daycares, and small schools in Vermont.

At Lincoln Gap Photography, I offer a modern approach to school photos — simple, natural portraits that let each child’s personality shine. With a classic black backdrop and natural light, I create timeless images families are proud to hang on their walls.

Unlike traditional school photos, children are never forced to smile. I encourage them to relax, have fun, and just be themselves — which always makes for the best portraits.

What Makes These Portraits Different?

School photos don’t have to be stiff or cookie-cutter. My school portraits are a modern, boutique alternative to traditional school pictures.

  • Simple black background and natural light — no harsh flashes

  • Gentle, encouraging approach — kids can smile, giggle, or simply be themselves

  • 2–5 images per child, in both color and black & white

  • Portraits that feel personal, timeless, and worthy of the walls at home

These are school photos that families are truly excited to receive.

For Schools: Stress-Free Picture Day

I know schools are busy, so I make the process simple:

  • No paperwork or money handling by staff — everything is ordered online

  • Password-protected galleries for each child

  • Clear instructions and a Parent Info PDF provided ahead of time

  • Hand-delivered prints directly to your school

  • All communication handled by me — families contact me directly with questions

All I need is a large window with natural light. I bring the rest!

For nursery and toddler classrooms, I do ask for a little extra support:

  • Teachers may help gently hold infants for their portraits.

  • Toddlers often feel shy with a new person, so having a trusted staff member nearby makes all the difference in helping them feel comfortable.

This small bit of teamwork helps ensure that even the youngest children have a positive, stress-free photo day.

For Families: Choice & Convenience

Unlike traditional school photography, families are not locked into one pose or required to prepay. Instead:

  • Browse 2–5 images of your child in a private gallery

  • Order only what you love — prints, digitals, or boutique wall art

  • Competitive pricing with collections and à la carte options to fit every budget

  • Orders delivered directly to your child’s school

It’s a personalized, modern approach that feels good from start to finish.

Frequently Asked Qustions

How much do prints cost?

Prints and digitals are competitively priced. Nothing is due up front, and families are under no obligation to purchase.

See the pricing list for details.

When do you photograph schools?

I can photograph your school at any time of year! That said, I recommend scheduling portraits either early in the fall or in spring (April or May). Fall photos give families plenty of time to order prints and gifts for the holidays, and spring sessions line up beautifully with Mother’s Day and Father’s Day — perfect timing for meaningful keepsakes.

What if my child is shy or doesn’t want to smile?

That’s absolutely okay! I never force children to smile. My goal is to create portraits that feel natural and true to who they are. Some kids laugh and show big grins, while others are more serious or reserved — all of those expressions are wonderful and worth remembering.

For younger children, especially toddlers, it often helps to have a familiar teacher nearby. With a little patience (and sometimes a silly trick or two), we can usually capture a photo you’ll love.

Do you offer retake days?

Because I provide a selection of images for each child, families don’t have to worry about “bad school pictures” — there’s no need for traditional retakes. Each child will have a variety of expressions to choose from in their gallery.

That said, I typically photograph at the school over the course of at least two days. If a child is absent or has a tough day during their scheduled time, parents can arrange with the school to bring them in on the other picture day.
