There are a number of reasons for your maternity session to take place in your own home. As a Vermont Maternity Photographer, I love to capture the beauty of Vermont and the Mad River Valley for you in your maternity photos, but sometimes indoor photos are a better option. In this post, I wanted to share with you a Vermont Maternity Session that took place in the couple's home, to show you how beautiful indoor, at-home maternity portraits can be.
I know many Vermont parents-to-be are concerned that their home isn't suited to indoor photography, because they don't think they have a lot of window light in their home or because of certain aesthetic preferences, but I assure you that your home is absolutely perfect for your session, and I can always find enough light, as well as special areas of your home that you wouldn't even think of photographing in, that will result in beautiful images of this special time on your life.
1. Weather
Vermont is cold, wet and snowy for at least 6 months out of the year. While I love a gorgeous winter maternity session outdoors in the snow, sometimes it is just too cold and it is best to move your session indoors. You will be warm and cozy, and we will have to opportunity for some more intimate portraits if you wish.
2. Include all family members
If you have pets, you probably would like to include them in your maternity session. I believe that pets are a part of your family, and sometimes they are really our first children, so including them in your maternity session is really special. You could potentially bring your dog to your outdoor maternity session, but if you have a cat or another pet that always stays at home, moving your maternity session to where they are most comfortable is the way to go. Having pets at your session can ease your photo session anxiety, and you will also have beautiful, cuddly photos with them that you will certainly cherish.
3. Spark Creativity
When you book an in-home maternity session, you know that your images will be 100% unique to you. Nobody has your same exact home, style, and lighting, so I am able to really get creative with my use of light, angles, and use your decor to my advantage to deliver images that are not your run of the mill portraits that everyone else has.
Using mirrors is a fun and gorgeous way to capture your changing body and growing belly from many angles at once.
I love adding drama to images with my use of light. Here we used direct light from the window, and I used an antique crochet blanket to add interesting shadows. Careful, fine art editing ties the whole image together to add drama to capture your pregnancy perfectly.
As you can see, your in-home maternity session will result in a gallery of beautiful images, that are truly meaningful to you as you welcome your baby into the world.
